Established in June of 2018, Knight’s Tales is a blog focusing on the our children’s books with an educational intent. As a public school teacher of K-3 grades, I have valuable insight into what students want to read and how they learn. As a teacher, I know what works in the classroom and what lessons can be used with what standards to teach writing and reading skills. In other words, I know what it takes to be successful in entertaining children while they are growing their minds and learning new information to be successful learners. This January 2024 I signed a publishing contract with Orange Hat Publishing. I am so excited to work with this team and get my two celiac children’s books into the school world. So many teachers need to have this to teach inclusion. Many students have dietary restrictions and need to feel accepted and included in the social aspect of the school environment. I am excited that both of these wonderfully illustrated books bring empowerment to children through the rich relatable characters. Pre-order information will be coming soon.

With much excitement, I have finished two children’s books about students who have celiac disease in the school setting. They both felt left out of social aspects but rather than be upset, both characters found ways to overcome the negative feelings and present solutions that benefit all. They both learn to accept their necessary diets as celiacs and also participate in the social aspect of friendships aWith much excitement, I have finished two children’s books about students who have celiac disease in the school setting. This summer while I was recovering over my toe surgery, I dove into learning more about celiac disease. Since I was diagnosed gluten intolerant almost two years ago, and my daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease last year, I really wanted to learn more. Once I gained all this new knowledge I wanted to share it with the world. So I started my new website and instagram called:gluten free travels the world. Here, I have shared with followers places I have eaten at while being gluten free in 2022 and 2023. It has been a challenge at times, more so in the U.S. It has been frustrating and rewarding. It has been an emotional roller coaster for sure.
As I reflected on all my feelings, I realized if I felt these feelings, can you imagine children? I took my 23 years of teaching young children in mind and I wrote two books on characters who have celiac disease in the school setting. This have touched my heart and filled it with joy. I see how my books will encourage important classroom discussions about diversity and empathy at school. The books will have children reflect on their behaviors and those around them. With celiac disease at 1.4% of the world population celiac disease is very relatable to so many. And, unfortunately, that number rising. These books will help children grow socially and emotionally in today’s diverse society. I am the proud author of these two upcoming books.
Stay tuned for their publication dates…

So Mrs. Myrtle changed her name to Ms. Turtlé. I had to have a turtle name that rhymed with “well”. (Oh, the joys of writing!) Nonetheless, I love it. I love how she is a strong, determined character who, despite all the chaos around her during the Olympic race, she remains focused on her goal. She is a rather straightforward, no nonsense character but also very aware of her surroundings and respectful. It was fun to create the story and I simply love my illustrator, Shahab Shamshirsaz, who makes what’s in my head, come to life on paper. He is such a talent and I am lucky to work with him. Check out the trailer to the book and purchase today! It is a great reminder to our young children who set goals, that they must first plan.
